I was so blessed at the OSCAAR banquet, not only to have three of my sponsor reps there, Quaker State, Lincoln Electric and Grind Stone Property Management, but also one of my crew members Stephen and Lucy Lippert. We won both the Best Appearing Car and Sportsman of the Year awards.
This was the 15th time for our team to win Best Appearing Car, the first time in OSCAAR Modifieds. The Don Hawn Sportsman Award was our 12th time winning the Sportsman of the Year award and the 4th time in the 5 years we’ve raced in OSCAAR.
My sponsors and crew had a great night, as did everyone that was there. It was truly a fun event with lots of couples dancing and boys doing shop talk. The venue was very nice and the food was awesome. Thanks to Dave Gainforth and his team for putting on an excellent year end festivity.

Remembrance Day….Thank You Dad….And All Those Who Served
My Dad left his family and his Nova Scotia home, to go to France to fight against the Nazi drive to take over Europe. What really upset Dad was when Hitler suggested they would be heading to Canada after Europe.
Dad was 19. He drove a jeep and a big truck taking supplies to soldiers.
While overseas his Mom (Ally) died. Losing his Mom while he was so far away hurt him more than anything else. He came home a very hurt and an angry young man.
He would carry hurts from this war for years, and did his best to love and care for his family in spite of all his battles. Dad became a top welder for the Boiler Makers Union and often fixed my race cars.
God bless you Dad and all those who served in the crazy wars on this planet.
Octoberfest October 13th……Last Race of 2018
I will be driving the Late Model at Flamboro Speedway tomorrow for the annual Octoberfest Classic. It will be a cool day but I am looking forward to closing out the season racing my Quaker State Impala, supporting all my sponsors, fans and Flamboro Speedway.
Hope to see you there…….Diary of a Season 2018 has been updated after Peterborough Speedway’s ACC.

7th Win of 2018 Helps Us Finish 4th In OSCAAR Points
Thanks to Morgan Amber for this photo. This was one of my toughest wins of 2018 with our heat filled with fast cars including Cory Horner who once restarted outside of me with 4 laps to go. Good restarts and a great handling car allowed us to win our 7th race of 2018, the most wins since 2014.
We will start rebuilding the Modified in November.
Meanwhile we have one more race for 2018, Octoberfest at Flamboro Speedway.
This will be my 17th night of racing this season, short of our average but still not too bad for me.
Once the season is done I will recap “49 Years of Stats”…..calling it “50 Years of Stats”.
More updates this week, but going to finish Diary of a Season 2018, race report #16.

Happy Birthday David….So Proud of My Children
Today is David’s birthday. When he was 10 years old I told him we were going down town Toronto to meet a friend of mine who was going to give me something for the race car. We stood opposite Maple Leaf Gardens for a long time and I said “maybe he’s not going to show”. Then I pulled out 2 tickets for the hockey game….he was very excited.
We sat in row J seat 10 on October 10th 1981…..great night.
I will be updating Autumn Colors Classic Thursday, I finally got lots of pictures.
This picture is from 1974 when David was 3 and I was 27….yikes.

Top Qualifier At Velocity With 2 Wins….Feature Not So Good….David Get’s 3rd In Both Late Model Features…..We Finish 4th In Points
It was a crazy weekend for us. I will post the full story on Diary of a Season 2018.
We picked up 2 wins in the heat races, exciting wins, but the car had severe mechanical issues in the feature.
David meanwhile tried his best to get us a top 3 in Flamboro Late Model points. He finished 3rd in both features. Our hope was 3rd but we ended up falling just a few points short finishing 4th.

Charity Classic Custom Car Show A Success
Sunday September 16th Buttons and I headed north east to Gormley for the annual Charity Classic Custom Car, Truck & Bike show. This event was hosted by the Highway 11 Cruisers and was packed all day. In this pic, the police from Smokey & The Bandit pulled Buttons over for speeding.
It was very hot but Buttons and I survived.
This was our 10th show of the season, we will have one more in November at the Canadian Tire in Waterdown, I will post on that when it gets closer.
David and his crew race the Late Model this weekend at Flamboro Speedway. We have split the driving this year in the Late Model and find ourselves only 5 points out of 3rd place in the standings. The chase for this title will be one of the weakest ever with only 5 nights of racing towards the points battle. We lost 4 so far this year, both of us losing two.
Meanwhile I will be at Sunset Speedway’s Velocity with my crew on the 22nd and 23rd. We are currently 4th in points ten behind 3rd with 3 points nights to go.

Memorial Night David Finishes 4th and 2nd……We’re 5th Four Points From 3rd
David had a good but frustrating night. His lap times were the fastest all year getting down in the 15:1’s. Losing brakes in the first 30 lap feature hurt us but he still picked up 4th and runner up in the second.
The full story will be on Diary of a Season 2017 soon.
Thanks to Derek Smith for this photo.

Memorial Night September 8th
David and the team returned from Jukasa Speedway with a good run, no damage, no issues only some cosmetic touch ups and routine maintenance.
Pretty good job with a 10 year old car…..and finished 19th….awesome.
The full story will be on Dairy of a Season 2018 by tonight.
Saturday September 8th back to Flamboro Speedway for Memorial Night and a run to move up in points. we are currently 5th only 22 out of first.
