Well we did it, and God had His hand upon the outcome. How good was it to have our final night at maybe the biggest show, Autumn Colors Classic at Peterborough Speedway. We lost 3 races to rain, I accidentally called Jukasa Speedway a 2 race show and it was only one. we did get a race added in by OSCAAR when promoter Brian Stoddish asked Dave Gainforth if the Modifieds would race at his track in the fall Velocity and of course the answer was yes. With the mix ups, rain outs and additions, it worked out perfect, our 800th night on the final night of the year and on the eve of our 50th season, 2018.
It would have been so disappointing to have #800 on opening day next spring…so thank you Lord.
Also, thank you to Nonie, my family, all my crews and sponsors, my competitors, their crews, promoters and their staff and everyone who helped make it happen, because I could not have done this by myself….thank you all and God bless.
Our 800th Consecutive Night This Weekend…..At Autumn Colors Classic Peterborough Speedway…In The Mod
We will hit our 800th consecutive night of racing at the 3 day Autumn Colors Classic in Peterborough. Ironically our 700th consecutive night was also in the Modified at Sunset Speedway.
I am very proud of this accomplishment and grateful to all those who have made it possible.
First I thank God for providing me with a great family, crew, sponsors, competitors, fans, promoters and all their families. I thank God for strength, good health, safety, provision, wisdom and the many ways He has blessed me.
This will also be our final race of 2017. We are looking forward to our 50th full season of racing in 2018. How great has this journey been, to race this long. Thank you Lord, thank you everyone who helped along the way. <3
799 In The Books…..Not How We Wanted But That’s Racing
We finished our 799th night at Flamboro with the car getting beat up pretty bad in the final feature with 15 to go.
The full report will be on Diary of a Season 2017 on our Message Board, General Chat section.
I re-injured my back and ribs, similar to 1999, so I will be very sore this coming weekend for Autumn Colors Classic at Peterborough Speedway…..our 800th consecutive night.
798 Consecutive Nights After Sunset Speedway Velocity
We raced our 798th consecutive night at Sunset Speedway on Sunday the 24th of September. We have 2 more races to go to hit 800, Flamboro’s Octoberfest and then Autumn Colors on Thanksgiving Weekend.
We had a great run in our Modified, starting 23rd and finishing 9th. I drove about as hard as I ever have in any race car.
We were up to 7th and lost a few spots when I got sideways from driving deep and trying to get on the gas in a hurry. I was all but used up as well with the extreme heat.
The full story, as well as the night before at Flamboro is on our Message Board, under General Chat and then click on Diary of A Season 2017.

Consecutive Streak Hits 797 Flamboro Speedway September 23rd
Of our 1243 total race nights, we will hit our 797th in a row at Flamboro Speedway tonight. Then it’s off to Sunset Speedway for their year end Velocity with the Modified. The Velocity is a 2 day deal with qualifying today. Rob Di Venanzo will quality our Mod for me to keep our points up. I will start scratch for tomorrows 40 lap event that will be 798…..Our streak started on June 5th 1987……thanks for visiting
Road to 800……..796 Complete
It’s been a long journey filled with many great memories. Also been a dedicated run to not give up at times.
It started on June 5th, a return to racing after a 2 day suspension in the Hobby Club. That new start has gone without a miss is in its 31st season.
We have accumulated 796 consecutive nights as of this past weekend, and with the hope of no rain over the next 4 race dates, we will hit our 800th consecutive night at Autumn Colors, Peterborough Speedway.
There are so many people to thank and I will make that post when we reach 800 in a row. Meanwhile, I thank God for the tons of blessings. I do want to thank Nonie for being there for me for the first 26 years, my son David, and daughter Shirley, and Quaker State who is my only sponsor that has been with me since this streak started.
Best Night This Year…..But Don’t Go By This Derek Smith Photo
We finally got our car running the best it has in 7 years. This wreck on lap one is too bad because we put down 7 laps in the low 15:4’s….I know, still off but much closer than we have been. The full story is on Diary of a Season 2017…..I am very excited about how strong our car is running. The engine is much better now with good power after I rebuilt the carb, the first time I did a carb overhaul in many years. I guess the TLC we have applied to the Pro Late Model this year, and especially lately, with David’s help, is finally paying off. I see us in the 15:3’s this coming weekend, first time since 2010, and that will still be slower than some but we’ve closed the gap and I finally feel confident with my car. Good crew, sponsors and attitude is helping us get this Pro Late Model where it should be.
Jukasa Motor Speedway….What A Day
We ran our Pro Late Model on the weekend with close to 40 other Pro Late Models in the APC Rankin Construction Twin 75’s. We had some good moments but finished 32nd and 25th, both poor finishes a result of carb and fuel issues……but no damage.
Congrats to Jason Hathaway on winning both features, and the new track owners for producing the nicest race track in Ontario, resulting in a packed house. Wishing you folks a successful journey with Jukasa Motor Speedway.
Thanks to David, Lloyd, Louie, Don, John, Rob and Tyler for helping out this weekend, and especially to David for his awesome spotting and getting our car set up to be competitive in this amazing historic race….the full story will be on Diary of a Season 2017 but Thursday afternoon…….thanks for visiting our site.
Sunset APC Race…….793 Consecutive Nights
We raced the APC Sunset Speedway AP Exhaust 100 on Saturday August 19th. Lots of issues prevented us from getting hot laps and making our car race worthy. It has been 3 years since our Late Model was on Sunset’s fast oval.
The full race report is on Dairy of a Season 2017 in the Message Board. Click on General Chat after entering the Message Board………thanks for visiting our site. 🙂
Rob Di Venanzo Finishes 3rd at Sauble In Our Mod…Great Job
Early in the year Rob DiVenanzo asked if there was any races he could get from either of my cars. I had decided to race the Late Model more this year so I gave Rob 3 Modified shows to do, all OSCAAR. His first one was August 5th at Peterborough Speedway but he was unable to make that due to work. I changed my schedule from running the APC race at Sauble and raced the Mod at Peterborough.
Rob’s next race was this past weekend at Sauble while I was at Sunset with the APC series in our Late Model. Rob did amazing, giving us a great points night with a 5th, 4th in the heats and a 3rd in the feature. Great job buddy, we all appreciate it…….our next race is this weekend, the biggest of my career, Twin 75’s at Jukasa Speedway. 44 cars are registered, we have to be on top of our game to make this race. We have lots to do this week but I have confidence we will make the show……..thanks for visiting our site.
