This weekend we run a double header with the Modified at Sauble Speedway. Friday night is round four of the OSCAAR Modified Chase and Sunday is the Rick Woolner Memorial. Hope the weather holds out, lots of cars show up and the stands are packed.
We are currently 3rd in OSCAAR points, but have yet to have a good feature finish. We hope this time we can pull off a win.
2016 Schedule
Canada’s ‘Iron Man’ of Racing, Gary Elliott, Enters IWK 250
The man who has amassed more career starts than any other stock car racer in Canada, Gary Elliott, has filed his entry for the IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body. Known as the “Iron Man’ of Canadian stock car racing Elliott, who hails from Dundas, Ontario, will make his first start in the prestigious event and sees it as the biggest race in his 48-year racing career.
A two-time champion in the Canadian Vintage Modified series, Elliott has 1,202 career starts on his resume with a consecutive streak of 753 events – that’s an amazing 38 seasons with perfect attendance. He calls his IWK 250 trip the ‘Going Home Tour’ since he was born in Truro, where he still has many relatives and friends.

“I am so thrilled to be going back home for the most exciting event of my career,” said Elliott. “It will be in front of the biggest crowd, too, which will include many of my family. And it will have the best field of competitors. I thank God for allowing me to do what I love to do, race. And for bringing so many friends, fans, competitors, promoters and sponsors into my life. This continues to be an awesome journey that is truly about the people I’ve met.”
For the IWK 250, Elliott’s entry is reminiscent of its formative years in the late 70s and 80s when Ontario racers regularly made the trek to Riverside, In fact, the very first winner of the event historically referred to as the ‘Riverside 250’ was Ontario’s Billy Watson. Others who have taken the ‘250’ title back to Ontario include three-time winner Don Biederman and two-time winner Junior Hanley (a native of Port Mouton, NS).
“It’s very cool that the IWK 250 continues to attract racers from outside our region,” said Paul McLean, general manager of Riverside International Speedway. “Especially Ontario racers, with whom Riverside enjoys a historical connection. We hope more will visit us in the coming years.”
Besides Elliott’s impressive career stats, he also enjoys perhaps the longest standing sponsor relationship among Canadian racers – 2016 marks his 43rd season representing Quaker State. He is still fundraising for the ‘Going Home Tour’ and will host an event at his home in Dundas on July 10 where fans can enjoy a BBQ, win prizes, meet his crew and see his cars. Corporate sponsors who are interested in supporting his venture can contact him directly at 905-928-8086.
Once he arrives in Nova Scotia, fans can meet him and see his car on July 13 at the Victoria Hall Fundraiser in Bass River, on July 14 at the Canadian Tire in Truro, and on July 15 at the Walmart in Antigonish.
OSCAAR Modified Gets First Win of 2016
We got our first Modified win of 2016. The car was good in this heat race, and fairly good in the second heat, taking a 4th. The feature was not so lucky, got pin-balled a few times, but ended up 7th with our alignment out of spec. The full story on Diary of a Season 2016 by Wednesday.
Our next race is this Saturday with the Late Model, it’s a show up points race, all cars get the same points. The reason is for Shawn Chenoweth and any other Flamboro teams who go to the APC race this Saturday. The APC series had a rain date changed that ended up on June 25th, conflicting with the Flamboro schedule. John Casale wanted to give drivers a drop night, but David Elliott suggested giving all drivers who were regular drivers at Flamboro, and were going to the APC race, 100 points each, because it wasn’t their fault they couldn’t be at the track. Any driver who is registered with Flamboro, who goes to the APC race at Sauble, gets 100 points. It’s also a non inventory night, you could buy 4 new tires this Saturday.
Jay Linde will drive our Late Model in the first feature, the one that was cancelled on June 11th because of the hydro failure, I will drive the two regular features for that night….but not very hard because our Late Model goes to Brian MacDonald for set up Monday for the big race in Nova Scotia on July 16th….more on that soon.

IWK 250…….My Biggest, Most Thrilling Race In 48 Seasons
Going Home Tour…..event!
We will be having an event at my place on July 10th to help get us the rest of the funds to the biggest race of my career, the IWK 250 held at Riverside International Speedway on July 16th in Antigonish Nova Scotia.
We will be competing in the Maritime Pro Stock Tour. NASCAR star Matt Crafton will be there, as will many top Maritime racers.
It’s 250 laps on a fast high banked oval. A competition yellow on lap 125 for tires and fuel……no doubt my biggest race in 48 years.
This race is special to me because I was born in Truro Nova Scotia, and have many dear Uncles, Aunts, cousins and friends living in that area. We are having a fun event with an awesome barbecue, many door prizes and even a Dart contest.
Here is the ticket, you don’t have to be there to win a prize, all names will be put in for the draw.
Please call me on my cell or email me for tickets

Jay Linde Does Awesome In His First Ever Stock Car Race
After getting rained out at Varney I was able to head to Flamboro Speedway to spot for Jay Linde who was driving my Late Model. I asked Jay a few months ago if he would like to drive and he said he would.
I was very concerned about him racing our car without a good spotter. As it turned out I would be spotting and guiding him through his first ever stock car race.
He made two practices on Tuesday night at Flamboro, but with no one else on the track. He got a quick baptism to racing once he took the oval with other cars in the first of two hot lap sessions. It was overwhelming for him, but he did very well in his first feature, finishing 13th of 16.
The second feature was cancelled due to a hydro issue. He will run his postponed feature on June 25th, it will be the first race out and I will run the rest of the night, racing in the regular scheduled program.
Overall I was very happy with Jay and his efforts. He listened to me and the car came off the track unscathed.
OSCAAR Races Cancelled Full Throttle Motor Speedway for June 11th
“Return to the shop”………..Full Throttle Motor Speedway is trusting the weather man to be accurate about some nasty Weather coming to that area for Saturday and have cancelled the races for Saturday night June 11th……if there is a rain date I will post it here…..thanks for the Ontario Oval Eric Uprichard photo
