Race #1 Completed July 10th Petty International Raceway
Opening Day For GEM……..Season #53
Finally we begin our 53rd race season on July 10th 2021. It’s been a while, although in 2020 we started racing on July 4th, so this is a week later. Normally over my career, I would be starting late April or early May, but I am excited to be racing in the 57th River Glade 200 Pro Stock Invitational.
They are calling our cars Super Late Models, not sure why, but that’s the new name for Late Models, turned Pro Late Models, then Pro Stock here in the Maritimes and now Super Late Models.
We’ve had a lot of rain lately, and even now it’s misty with rain in the Truro Nova Scotia area, but the forecast looks good for tomorrow afternoon. We are loaded up and ready to head out first thing in the morning.
Our next promotional flyer should have our new look, although it isn’t much different than this one, perhaps our best looking Late Model ever.

Petty International Raceway Possibly July 10th ….Waiting For Confirmation
It looks like Nova Scotia will be opening up to all the Maritimes. The latest report we have says people can travel in and out of New Brunswick whether they have the vaccine or not. PEI however is forcing everyone to have the vaccine, and if you have been vaccinated you will need to be tested.
Our first race could be July 10th at Petty International Raceway.
I will post a confirmation as soon as I have confirmation.
PS….new designed logo for Strictly Hydraulics soon to be unveiled.
Thanks to Ernie Pothier for this 2020 photo at Petty International Raceway.

Race Season Opening Sometime In July
We started racing in 2020 on July 4th, the United States birthday.
Announcements yesterday from the Nova Scotia Premier and medical advisor suggest we could open up late July if things keep tracking as they are. There are not very cases (17 yesterday), total deaths for Nova Scotia are under 90 since this started and well over 98% of those tested positive have recovered.
The push here is for vaccines, they want to hit 70%. People who get the vaccine are protected (is the message from the experts). So non vaccinated people should not affect vaccinated people.
I will follow as soon as something new comes out.
This picture was taken by Ken MacIssac last September at Riverside International Speedway in Nova Scotia.
The only thing left to do on our car is get it lettered, the car is basically ready for practice, although I think we will go over everything once more to make sure we’re good to go. Nuts and bolts, fluids etc.

2021 Should Start Just After Canada’s Birthday…..A Present Of Relief To Us
Buttons waiting for opening day.
It seems most likely that our race season will start once again in New Brunswick on July 3rd. Last year it was July 4th, USA’s birthday. Canada’s birthday will be on Thursday, so maybe it could be on the Thursday, we will wait and see. Cases going down will be the reason for the government to open.
Our car is all ready but lettering. I am still waiting to hear from potential sponsors before having Kirk Alexander of Finish Line Graphics, letter the car. I left the number on the roof because it will be the same again in 2021 and it was in perfect shape.
Hope all of you are well. Pray for those affected by Covid in a more serious way, those in hospitals, those who can’t see loved ones who are sick, those who are stuck at the border waiting to get to their new homes in Nova Scotia, and businesses trying to hang on.

Shediac New Brunswick 2020 “Center For Speed”…..Check Out The Inside Tires….On The Edge…Car Is Ready Now…Just Lettering
Thanks to Ernie Pothier for this photo. I chased Shawn Pierce #21 for a bunch of laps before finally getting by. I had to use up as much track on the inside as possible, the drop is about 8″, it was most important not to fall off the edge.
Update
With Nova Scotia Covid restrictions higher now than earlier in 2021, and all borders locked down for travelers, it looks like we won’t be racing until July, possibly late June. I’m thinking the Government will set Canada’s birthday, July 1st, as a present for the 97% of the people in Nova Scotia that don’t have Covid. It will be a great ease of stress for the communities to finally get out of the restrictions, especially the small businesses.
In the southern US, racing and other sports are back to normal, and no spreading of the virus, hopefully we will be soon.
Our car is ready, just lettering left to do.
If we don’t start racing for 7 weeks that will give more teams time to get ready. In order for us to race, it will depend on the # of fans allowed to watch a race event. Most race tracks can’t open with 50 fans. Last July some New Brunswick tracks were fairly full by late July. In Nova Scotia, racing didn’t start until September because fan limits were set at 250 in the summer. By the fall NS was allowed 1250, still far too low to justify racing with the Maritime Pro Stock Tour, the top Late Model series in the Maritimes.
I’m hoping we get at least 8 races again in 2021 and then see this virus gone before the winter….for good. We will then see the common cold and influenza back as it usually is in the winter.
Hope everyone is well, pray for our country to be free, people to be safe and small businesses to get back to work.

Flamboro Machine Shop….Final Season With GEM
After being one of our partners for 18 seasons, John Van Wyngaarten of Flamboro Machine shop has informed us this will be his final season partnering with our team as an associate sponsor.
John has helped many racers over the years, even some he doesn’t sponsor to get their cars fixed and ready to go racing. A kind soul who loves racing.
I am very thankful for all the help and support we have received over the years from FMS.
