We raced at Scotia Speedworld on Saturday June 1st. It was the coldest June I can remember in decades. It also rained, then stopped, sun came out and it rained again. We thought we might lose the night because the cold temps wouldn’t dry the track, but the sun did come it and the rain went away but didn’t take the cold with it.
We had three sets of practice and the car felt good. We decided to lower the chassis a bit closer to the track surface, that was our only adjustments all day and it was good.
Our crew this day was Shannon Riley, Chris White, Jack Lynds, Bobby and Emily Sanford and of course Buttons.
There were 18 cars, a decent turn out. The format was a 10 lap heat race and 150-lap feature.
I decided to take scratch in the heat race because everyone qualified and I wasn’t too keen on getting hit or spun. We could run with these cars but our budget is low this year and we need to be smart and not beat up the car. We finished 6th and would start 18th in the feature.
There was a fan appreciation event planned but with the cold, wind and loss of time already, they cancelled that. It was a good idea because rain was still not far away.
I wished I still had my message board but it was too outdated and slowed our site down. So I post the results here on the front page and a little story, but only one picture.
This feature was a wild one. On lap 8 a car made it 3 wide going into turn three. By the time they got on the front chute the car on the outside had to check up or get squeezed into the front straight wall. But when he checked up the car behind got into him sending him sideways down the front chute and basically resulting in all kinds of mayhem. Three cars were badly damaged and done, others were beat up but came back out. As I was coming off turn four and on the straightaway I saw cars flying everywhere and managed to get slowed down enough to zig zag through the pile up.
The rest of the race was close and nothing serious. There were two more spins but no one got damaged. On the last lap I got lapped again by the leaders. My spotter told me to follow the fourth place car when he passed me. I did that and it put me beside the 13th place car and right behind the 12th place car. As we went down the back chute I thought I might have a chance to get by one of these cars but as we entered turn three the 12th place car chopped down on the 13th place car and they both spun out. I went high to avoid them and crossed the finish line in 12th place and no damage.
This night gave us enough points to be in 12th place in the standings.

Race #2 Scotia Speedworld Kenny U-Pull 150
We will have race night #2 this Saturday June 1st at Scotia Speedworld. We are ready to go, just a few minor things to get done. All the maintenance was done on Tuesday night, including scaling the car. We’re hoping for a better run this weekend, but will be tough regardless. I will have a better idea of how the car is set up after all the work we did over the winter.
Last week Speedway 660 was a track I have very few laps on and have not done well, but did have our best outing finishing 149 of 150 laps.
Hope the weather is good, lots of fans and cars and no one gets their car beat up.

Opening Night ECI Pro Stock Tour Speedway 660…..We Finally Finish At This Track….149 of 150 Laps
Our first race for 2024 is in the books. We had a good day considering all we did over the winter.
The only tech issue was our spoiler. It was 3/8” too wide. We fixed it. Everything else was good.
There was a few small issues but none serious.
I messed up on the gear selection. 5:67 was too much.
The LF fender was rubbing the tire. Got that fixed and we had a slight diff leak and that too was fixed.
My crew were fantastic.
Chris White, Jack Lynds, Robert Sanford and Emily Sanford and Buttons. They made sure everything was set to go. Shannon Riley had to work. But she will make our next race.
We’re at 891 consecutive nights now, closing in on 900.
We finished 6th in our heat and 14th of 19 cars in the feature. A fun night.

Opening Day…….Speedway 660 May 25th
This Saturday May 25th we will start our 2024 season at Speedway 660.
On May 11th we went for practice and it was cancelled due to rain, then May 18th was cancelled due to rumors of rain. We haven’t put a lap on the car yet this year, but the weather looks good for this quick oval, that’s different than all the rest. We’re expecting a full field of Pro Late Models to entertain the fans in the East Coast International Pro Stock 150
Hope to see packed grandstands to watch these young warriors put on a great show. There will be an autograph session at 3 PM then qualifying for the 150 lap main event. Opening Night Postponed Due To The Threat Of Rain……Our Season Starts May 25th Speedway 660
We were suppose to start our season on Saturday May 18th at Scotia Speedworld but when the weather man said it was going rain, the series cancelled the show, moving it to June 1st. I was disappointed to see the race cancelled. I get it that some racers in this series travel from New Brunswick and PEI, for them it’s a long day, and I understood how cancelling would be good for them. My issue was my weather app showed no rain, here or in Halifax area, and as it turned out, there was no rain Saturday or Sunday.
The East Coast International Pro Stock Tour will see it’s opening night at Speedway 660 on Saturday May 25th. It’s over 3 1/2 hours for us to get to this track. We will leave early in the morning and get home early in the morning.
We had our car out for our first off track event on May 14th at Mount Traber Bible Camp. It was a fun day spent with the kids who got to see and hear the race car. Shannon and Buttons were with me, Buttons was a huge hit 🙂
Race wise everything is set to go. Unfortunately we didn’t get to practice on May 11th, it was rained out. We sat at the track hoping it would clear up, but it was a cold day and drying the track would not happen. Just hoping we can get enough laps in during practice to sort out any issues….if there are any. We did take the car completely apart, stripped down to a bare chassis accept for the fuel cell, line and brake lines. The rest was all removed.

2024 Paint Scheme Done……Same As 2023 Some New Partners
We finally got our car complete as far as work is concerned. There are a few small things left to do that will be done in the next week or so, then our final set up for 2024.

We Finished The Body Installation…..Paint Next By Jerome Tracey Of Cape Breton
We started working on the car in late October and just finished all the fabrication this Saturday February 10th. We couldn’t work on it last weekend because of the big storm we had but did get work done Wednesday the 7thy and then completed it on Saturday. Thanks to Chris White, Jack Lynds and our newest crew member Ashley Harnish for their help.
The panels go out for paint early this week and once finished we can install them and then have Kirk Alexander letter the car. we will basically have the same paint scheme as 2023 as Quaker State will return for one more year….maybe more, but looks like this could be our last year based on the conversation I had with our marketing manager 3 weeks ago.
This season coming, my 56th will mark a few milestones.
* Quaker State 1974 to 2024
* Our 900th consecutive night on our 11th night of 2024
* Our 3000th career race on our 13th night of 2024.
Looking forward to this year, been trying hard to get new sponsors and we did get a few, I will make a post on our new sponsors soon. We still need at least 2 to 3 more sponsors to do what we plan in 2024…..18 races including 3 in Ontario.

Rebuild Continues With Good Progress….New Sponsors To Welcome Soon…..Looking Forward To 2024
After a great Christmas we are back at working on our 2024 rebuild. We have been making great progress getting the following done in the past 10 days.
* installed rebuilt quick change
* painted and installed lead
* installed driveline (engine and transmission)
* installed driveshaft
* installed driveshaft hoop
* repacked all wheel bearings
* installed new brake flex lines
* installed new brakes front and rear
* bled brakes
* bled clutch
* installed shocks and springs (shocks were tested with good results)
* installed rad and hoses
* hooked up electric fan
* hooked up power steering lines
* installed complete interior
Our next work list will include securing all the wiring for the MSD, alternator, gauges, temp sensor and fill with water. We hope to have all the chassis and ignition work done then start the car and let it run to make sure there are no leaks anywhere and all gauges are working properly.
Besides working on the car for a thorough overhaul, I am reaching out to different companies to partner with us for the next 2 years. So far there has been great interest and I will soon introduce and welcome our new sponsors on here.
PS…check the update on 55 Years of Stats. We will hit 2 milestones in 2024. We have 2974 career races entered so far including, heats, semi’s, trophy dash, consi’s and features. We will reach 3000 on our 13th night this year.
Maybe even more of a record in our streak, something that has been tested many times since it started on June 5th 1987. Of our 1330 nights, We are at 889 consecutive at the end of 2023 and will reach 900 on our 11th night this year. That may have been the toughest and most demanding of all our stats making sure we didn’t miss a schedule night each year since it started. I thank God for providing me with dedicated family, crew, sponsors, friends and determination to make every race night.
